Summer Classes 2010

Beginning Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th August 2010, see below for details

About Classes at Oxford Internal Arts

  • Classes run as 10 week courses or 8 week courses for University Students. This provides an effective format for learning the practices and for the smooth running of classes.
  • You can attend your first class for £5 to see if you wish to sign up for the course. Students may attend their first class for FREE.
  • You may join the Foundation Classes until the 4th week of classes. After this, you can take a private lesson to catch you up to the group to join classes. You do not pay for the classes you missed; therefore the cost of joining remains about equal to the cost of a term of classes. This enables the class to progress evenly without disruption.
  • You can join the T’ai Chi Classes at any time. Intermediate and keen Beginner T’ai Chi students are recommended also to attend some Foundation Classes if possible (see below).
  • OFFER! Anyone signing up for a term’s course is entitled to a half-hour Private Lesson FREE, and to their first Seminar at half-price!

Location & Parking for Classes

The weekly classes are centrally located at the Friends Meeting House, 43 St Giles, Oxford, OX1 3LW.

Parking is available in some parking bays locally.

For a map, visit Google Maps or the Friends Meeting House website. You can print out as necessary.

Seminars usually take place at Wolfson College, Oxford.

Summer Term Foundation Classes

Foundation Classes for the Term begin on Tuesday the 17th of August.

You may join the Foundation Classes until the 4th week of classes, or take a Private Lesson to catch up (see “About Classes” above for details).

In my experience, the material taught in these classes forms the ideal foundation in the Internal Arts for most people, providing a foundation to both to the health and meditative (emotional, mental and spiritual health) aspects.

Foundation Classes enable students to focus on the internal processes contained within T’ai Chi much more precisely and directly. It is these internal processes which give T’ai Chi it’s much reputed ability to heal the body, generate strength and energy, and release stress, and which allow practitioners to significantly raise the level of their T’ai Chi (please click for description of individual Foundation Practices). Foundation Classes can be learned on their own or if desired in combination with T’ai Chi, and most people report they greatly increase the level and benefit of the T’ai Chi they have already learned.

Foundation Classes also provide the foundation to the emotional, mental and spiritual health practices found in Taoism and not found in T’ai Chi, combining these seamlessly with physical health practices as was originally practiced in Taoism.

Any one of the Foundation Classes may be taken singly with excellent results. The classes complement each other exceptionally well, however, providing a combination or ‘synergy’ of techniques and approaches, and produce the smoothest progress towards developing your health and energy when done together.

T’AI CHI CLASSES

T’ai Chi Classes for the Summer Term begin Monday 16th August 2010.

Classes comprise the Wu Style of T’ai Chi as passed on by Master B.K.Frantzis, as well as material from the Foundation Classes, and partner exercises.

T’ai Chi is an intermediate/advanced form of neigong, hence it is strongly recommended people begin with Foundation Classes as they enable students to focus on the internal processes contained within T’ai Chi much more precisely and directly. It is these internal processes (properly called “neigong”) which give T’ai Chi it’s much reputed ability to heal the body, generate strength and energy, and release stress, and which allow practitioners to significantly raise the level of their T’ai Chi.

SEMINARS

Seminars are particularly appropriate for students who want to greatly develop their internal abilities by spending a whole day or weekend learning, practising and relaxing, and for those living out of town. Students report seminars greatly boosting the level of their practice and energy levels, and generally having a nice time, and I recommend them for anyone wanting to really get into the Internal Arts! See the Seminars page for details.

PRIVATE CLASSES

Private classes are very useful for tailoring your practice to your individual desires and requirements, and giving you in depth personalised feedback and tuition. Students report that the addition of Private Classes greatly accelerated and deepened their learning of the Internal Arts, and I generally recommend anyone wanting to gain the full benefits of these arts to receive some private tuition if possible.
